Urban Anthropology and partners offer the following programs, services, and activities in Lincoln Village/Baran Park (the Park Neighborhoods).

Summer Wonderlands Youth Program

UrbAn anthropologists invite 20 children from the Park Neighborhoods to participate in UrbAn’s summer youth program. From June to August youth will meet on a weekly basis at the South Side Settlement Museum to maintain a garden and learn about different cultural groups through ethnic crafts, cultural games and ethnic snacks. The students will gain knowledge of how to plant and take care of vegetables, make cultural crafts from four different countries, play summer games from four different ethnic groups (Native American, Italian, Irish, Mexican) and also sample ethnic dishes from the cultures represented. Games that they will play will include bocce, corn hole and croquet.  In August the students will have a chance to sell their produce and the crafts.

The ideal age for the program is 10-14 years and the program is free for all participants.

The program will meet once in May to plant the vegetables and then every Tuesday between June 8 and August 10 in the backyard of the Old South Side Settlement Museum.

Please contact Urban Anthropology at 414-271-9417 to reserve a spot for the program.
